The purpose of culminating rich tasks is to provide an authentic assessment task for children to complete that allows them, through the processes and knowledge used completing it and the knowledge shown in the presentation of the task, to show all that they have learnt through the rich learning unit. Thus, rich tasks in Longburn School are designed so that the deeper understanding, learning dispositions and deeper knowledge focused on in the unit can be effectively used and then presented. Culminating rich tasks could be a product, performance or model. These are designed once all the other core components have been considered and decided upon.
When a child is asked "What did you learn?" They should be able to articulate the deeper understanding and knowledge that was being focused on, rather than content specific to the context of the learning.
